So why did we even need a sacrifice? In the Old Testament, the Hebrews had to sacrifice different animals for different sins; and each animal had to be without spot or blemish. These laws are spelled out in the book of Leviticus. However, these offerings were only good for covering up the sin of the people; the sin was never actually erased.
This is why Jesus had to come and die for us. There had to be one ultimate sacrifice in order to save all of mankind. This man had to live a perfect life, and no sin could be found in Him. This is why the virgin birth was so important, man is born into sin. So this Savior could not be born of a man, the Holy Spirit conceived a child in the virgin Mary. He came from the womb of a woman, but not the seed of a man. This is what gave Jesus the perfect start in life.
Then this perfect lamb (Jesus) was put to death on a cross for our sin (Isaiah 53:3-5). But He rose up from the dead 3 days later, conquering death so that we might live. In the end it all boils down to a choice. Do we accept this sacrifice and live, or reject it and die in our sin? Hell was not created for man, it was created for Lucifer and the angels that fell with him. But when a person makes a choice to reject God's love, then they automatically choose eternal death.
God loves you and wants to have a relationship with you; but the final choice is always up to you. Want to know how to make things right with God?
